By Princely Onyenwe, Imo –
The management of the only surviving zoo in South East, at old Nekede road Imo state is reportedly forgotten by the Uzodinma’s administration without finding a solution to put the road and the zoo in order.
Our source told 9News Nigeria that for some months now the zoo has not been visited by any individual, due to no road and negligence by the government.
However, the road to old Nekede, Owerri, Imo State, is no longer good, in fact, it has been broken/divided by erosion from the Owerri west end axis for a long period of time till date, nothing has been done to change the sorry state of the road that houses hundreds of public and government agencies.
This, therefore, has forced Motorists to be using saga suit road, while commercial drivers have automatically increased their fares by 50% and 💯%, depending on the time & where you are going to.
From Owerri west end to Nekede old road which is the closest community from the municipality and the administrative capital of Imo state now board for 200 and 250 Naira per passenger.
It is dangerous that the only surviving zoo in South East, at old Nekede road, for some months now, have not been visited by any individual, due to no road and negligence by the government.
Several times, the management of the zoo has called for help, but the government has done little or nothing there.
Recall that this was the same zoo that the immediate past Governor Emeka Ihedioha had concluded plans to take to an international standard before he was sacked from office.
Information reaching us from the management is that over 400 animals have died there this year, 2021, due to negligence cum lackadaisical attitudes of the powers that be.
The ministry that handles the zoology department has to be queried by the capable leadership of his EXCELLENCY GOVERNOR Hope Uzodinma to urgently address this trauma imposed on the people of Nekede and the animal kingdom at large.
