At least one member of the Biafran separatist group, the Biafra Nations League, BnL, has been shot dead by the Rapid d’intervention Battalion (BIR), a Cameroonian Army unit in Bakassi Peninsula in the evening on Wednesday.
9news Nigeria gathered that Cameroonian Soldiers opened fire when militias suspected to be members of the BnL group attempted to seize control of major waterways, in a bid to prevent the passage of vessels coming from Nigeria, and Cameroon inline with the orders of the group banning the movement of a foreign vessel.
Earlier this month, the BnL seized control of the entrance to Bakassi Peninsula, a boundary between Akpabuyo and Bakassi, hoisting the Biafran flag, they retreated before the arrival of Nigerian Armed Forces, in their verified Facebook page they claimed responsibility for their actions, refuting reports that it was carried out by members of indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB), whose leader, Mr Nnamdi Kanu is standing trial.
BnL is among the separatist group fighting for the restoration of Biafra, the group is led by Princewill Chimezie Richards and Ebuta Akor Takon respectively, they have their Chief of Staff, Linus Essien an indigene of Bakassi, they operate mainly at Cameroon border towns in Cross River State, Bakassi Peninsula and Akwa Ibom.
