Chief Olabode George, the former military administrator of Ondo State and former Chairman of the Nigerian Ports Authority has eulogized Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State as the best performing governor in Nigeria today.
The former Vice-chairman (Southwest zone) of the Peoples Democratic Party spoke glowingly of Governor Wike at the commissioning ceremony of Omerelu Internal Roads, Ikwerre Local Government Area constructed by the Rivers State Government, on Thursday 1 September 2022.
“Commissioning of these projects is an attestation that good things can still come out of Nigeria. Governor Wike has distinguished himself as one of the most performing governors, if not the most performing governor in Nigeria today.
“This is a characteristic which distinguishes him as an outstanding brilliant achiever and one who continues to chart a way forward for modeling a strong commitment to national development.
“The weekly commissioning of projects across Rivers State is also a testament to the visionary leadership of Governor Wike. I want to congratulate my brother Governor Wike for his unprecedented achievements in this state. I know that the people of Rivers State will continue to see more projects till May 29, 2023, when you will leave office as one of the most performing governors in the history of the state,” he added.
Earlier in his remarks, Governor Nyesom Wike said the construction of Omerelu Internal Roads is a fulfillment of his campaign promise to them. He also thanked the special guest of honor, Chief Bode George, his wife, and other members of his entourage for honoring his invitation to commission the road.
“On behalf of the government and people of Rivers State, I want to sincerely thank our special guest, your wife, and other members of your delegation for honoring our invitation despite the short notice.
“When I was campaigning, I did tell the people of Omerelu that if they support me, and God willing I become the governor of Rivers State, I will construct their internal roads. After I emerged victorious, some of them started reminding me of my promise, I told them to be patient because when it is their turn, nobody can stop it. Last year we awarded the contract and provided the necessary funds to execute the job,” the Governor stated.
Reeling out the project description, the Honourable Commissioner for Works, Dr. George-Kelly D. Alabo FNIQS said Governor Nyesom Wike has dotted the landscape of Rivers State with numerous projects that will stand the test of time.
“In the past few weeks we have been going from community to community, town to town flagging off and commissioning projects. Your Excellency, you have indeed dotted the landscape of Rivers State with numerous projects that will stand the test of time.
“This road project is 13.48km long, we have about 3.4km of the project in the built-up area of the community, and we have about 10km that crisscrosses all the farmlands of this community.
“It has a total drain length of 16.4km. The soil was deeply super saturated because we have a lot of roads passing through farmlands. We replaced such materials with sand with a thickness of an average of 350mm, 150mm stone base, 60mm binder course, and 40mm wearing course,” the Commissioner said.
