Except Adequate Security During Planned Nationwide NLC Protest, Rivers Police Assures NLC

The Organised labor in Nigeria has planned a nationwide protest against the growing economic hardship to hold on Tuesday 27 and Wednesday 28 February 2024.

Ahead of the protest, the Rivers State Police Command has assured it will not interrupt citizens from engaging in any so long as it is peacefully conducted.

The command said doing so would be an upholding of the constitutional right of the citizenry.

However, the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, SP Grace Iringe-koko has in a statement advised the organizers and participants to conduct their processions by the provisions of the law.

She said the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun has already instructed that the Rivers State Commissioner of Police, CP Olatunji Disu, deploy a substantial number of security personnel across the state during the protest.

The PPRO explained that the measure would guarantee the comprehensive security of the state and the safety of the protesters.

She warned that officers of the command would also ensure that no ill-minded persons were allowed to hijack the peaceful demonstration of citizens.

“It is important to note that participation in the protest is voluntary, as established by the norms governing peaceful demonstrations.

“Therefore, both residents and non-residents of the state can freely pursue their lawful businesses and discharge their responsibilities without hindrance.”
