Alia sets up panels to probe Ortom

Benue State Governor Hyacinth Iormem Alia, Wednesday inaugurated two judicial commissions of inquiry to investigate the administratiion of his immediate predecessor Samuel Ortom.

The Commissions are the Benue Income and Expenditure Commission of Inquiry 2024 and the Sale/Lease of Government Assets, Companies, and Markets (both State and Local Government Markets) Moribund Commission of Inquiry 2024.

Alia said while inaugurating members of the commissions that the inquiry was to promote accountability, transparency and good governance.

He explained that the setting up of the two commissions of inquiries to look into the activities of the outgone administratiion had become necessary, and is in response to the desire of the people.

The Income and Expenditure Inquiry Commission is chaired by Rtd Justice Taiwo with Dr Abraham Gberindyer as Secretary, while Justice Appolos Idi (Rtd) will chair the Assets and Morriibund Companies Inquiry Commission with John Edigbo as Secretary.

Alia said that the Judicial Commission were constituted inline with the Commission of Inquiry Law (Cap40) Laws of Benue State, 2004.

According to the governor “The future of Benue as a state, depends largerly on the prudent management of its esources, and as such, his administration will ensure that all monies expended, serve the collective purpose, which is to take the state to a greater heights. ‘

The future prosperity of Benue hinges on the prudent and judicious management of our resources. As we usher in a new era characterised by prioritizing the welfare of our people, it is imperative and quite incumbent upon us to ensure that every Naira expended serves the collective interest and propels the growth and development of our state.

“The responsible stewardship of governmnt resources bears a direct oorrelation to the well-being of our people. Adequate allocation to vital sectors such as economy, agriculture, education, security, healthcare, infrastructure uplifts the standard of living, while any mismanagement jeopardizes our collective progress”, he said.
