Nineteen (19) students of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) are now expelled or rusticated from the institution.
The Director of Corporate Affairs of the institution, Mr Kunle Akogun made this known in a statement on Monday.
He said the Vice Chancellor, Mr Wahab Egbewole (SAN) made the approval of the expulsion or rustication of the 19 affected students.
This, he pointed out, was a sequel to the recommendations made by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee at its 220th/221st meeting.
The affected 19 students, he explained, included six final-year students of the institution, who were allegedly involved in various offenses.
Specifically, Mr. Akogun said that the affected students were being penalized for offenses ranging from misconduct, theft, examination malpractice, hostel bed-space racketeering, and extortion.
Some of the affected students, he said, were involved in beating a fellow student, admission racketeering, extortion, and assault.
Mr Akogun also said the penalties for the offenses committed by the students included rustication for either one semester or one academic session, including outright expulsion.
“The affected students were in various academic levels such as 100, 200, 300 and 400 Levels.”
