An outbreak of an unknown illness has claimed the lives of five (5) children in Gidinye, a community in Jenkwe, Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State.

The children, aged, 15, 7, 6, 6 and 5, died in less than 24-hours after complains of stomach aches, vomiting and purging on Monday August 05 and Tuesday August Tuesday 06, 2024

A community leader who confirmed the unfortunate incident, said the children had left home to farm healthy.

The parents of the children are said to be farmers who operates along the Keana axis of the state.

Reacting, the Publicity Secretary of the Migili Youth Association, MYA, Comrade Samuel Akala appealed to Government and the relevant authorities to swiftly intervene in order to contain the outbreak and save human lives.

“The circumstances that resulted to sudden death of these children in Idah community on Tuesday, 6th August calls for forensic findings.

“I suggest Centre for Disease Control through PHCDA be invited to carryout disease surveillance in Keana and Obi commuinities where there are reported cases of acute diarrhea, vomiting and death of children in the past few days.

“I do hope this sporadic outbreak of disease do not affect a wider range of population in this part of the state, while the clinical Investigation lingers”, he said.
