Motion To Urge IMSG To Embark On Identifiable Signage For Street Naming Takes First Reading

The Imo State House of Assembly IMHA has moved a motion to urge the Governor of Imo His Excellency Hope Uzodinma to direct the commissioner for works and infrastructural development or any other relevant agency of the government to as a matter of societal developmental advancement embark on the proper use of identifiable signage for street naming in Imo State Nigeria.

The mover of the motion , the minority Leader of IMHA Hon Princewill Amuchie x-rayed the importance of functional Street Signage in Imo state as all encompassing.

The minority leader noted that whereas the Imo State Government having interest in the Town Planning, Security and Architectural Design/Street Naming of its cities which Included but not limited to Owerri Capital City through its initiation of the process to give a shot in the arm of tacky street signage which would help in giving proper direction to tourists, visitors and Imo citizens, this motion is aptly captured and presented by him.

9News Nigeria reports that the Bill was chiefly sponsored by Hon Princewill Ugochukwu Amuche and seven (7) other Honourables which Included – Chyna Iwuanyanwu, Chisom Ojukwu, Samuel Osuji, Francis Agabige, Clinton Amadi, Chigozie Nwaneri and Kennedy Ibeh.

Speaking, minority Leader Amuchie said the Motion requires urgent attention and speedy passage into law by the IMHA. He cited his reference noting that all over the world, developed cities are self explanatory by proper signage but in Imo so many streets are not identifiable. Ie , No Signage! No accurate numbers!

He added that town/ urban planning in Imo State constitutes the life wire and adds to the aesthetic beauty of Imo State and where proper street naming is not initiated and carried out would definitely leave the state in total disarray.

Hon Amuchie further observed that plethora of the streets in Imo state are without proper identifiable signage for directions and some are without recognizable names , the shared prosperity administration ably led by Governor Hope Uzodinma have shown a glowing desire to ensure street naming and proper marking for security of lives and property.

The need for street naming cannot be overemphasized because some cities like Lagos, PortHarcourt and other developed cities across the continents are enjoying the benefits of proper street signage with easy flow of vehicular and human movement to/fro any location without fear.

With the adoption of this bill, Imo state will tap into the tourist potentials, to track crime and very easy to navigate to burst criminals and stabilize easy ride .

Accordingly, Imo State functional signage will help the ease of doing business, security of lives and properties, and astatic beauty of the city to boost sustainable development.

Deputy minority leader , Rt Hon Clinton Amadi requested that signage should also be extended to all LGAs in the state to boost easy identification.

Other Honourable members spoke extensively on this bill based on its economic benefits and importance to generate money through fines, penalties to boost state IGR.

On Information and direction, Hon Engr Ben charged urban developers to key into this project. He added that the signage will capture illustrious and worthy sons and daughters of Imo state who in one way or the other served or contributed to the development of the state.

The bill when passed into law will serve as a street data bank in Imo state to capture the accuracy of streets, new numbering and goggles map and etc as Deputy speaker Iwuanyanwu assured.

In summary , members agreed that it is the Legal function of Local Government Council to work on this project when established as a law by IMHA.
