A social media critic, Samuel Samuel who was arrested and detained by the police for allegedly criticizing Governor Caleb Mutfwang of Plateau State will appear before the State High Court on Monday.
It was gathered that Samuel was detained for speaking out against Governor Mutfwang’s alleged luxury vehicle purchase, questioning the government priorities amidst widespread hunger and deprivation in the state.
According to reports, Samuel will stand trial for alleged deformation of character an offense punishable under Section 24 C of Cybercrime Act 2015.
However, the arrest has been widely condemned with Amnesty International saying it was an infringement of his freedom of speech as guaranteed by the Constitution and other universal human rights conventions.
