Senator Orji Uzor Kalu addressed the growing concerns over Nigeria’s economic challenges, particularly in light of recent government reforms.
During a recent interview on Channels Television, Kalu emphasized that the economic hardship is not unique to Nigeria, stating that it is a global issue affecting many countries due to factors such as inflation, rising energy prices, and global economic instability.
He urged Nigerians to recognize that these economic difficulties are widespread, while also encouraging the government to take swift action to ease the burden on citizens.
The Senator’s comments come at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with the impact of inflation and subsidy removal, leading to increased costs of living and public frustration.
He then called on President Bola Tinubu to prioritize immediate relief measures for the most vulnerable citizens to mitigate the effects of the reforms.
Committees, Not Legislators, Get Vehicles
In the same discussion, Senator Kalu also clarified a common misconception regarding vehicle allocations in the National Assembly.
Responding to public criticism about lawmakers receiving expensive vehicles, Kalu explained that individual legislators do not receive official vehicles.
Instead, the vehicles are provided to legislative committees to enable them to carry out their oversight functions effectively.
This clarification came in response to public concerns about government expenditure, especially amid economic struggles.
Kalu’s comments sought to reassure the public that the allocation of resources is intended to improve legislative functions and not for personal gain.
