A Jeju Air Plane carrying 175 passengers and 6 crew members crashed at South Korea’s Muan International Airport earlier on Sunday December 29, killing at least 96 people.
The plane returning from Bangkok, crashed while landing. Reuters reports two people were found alive so far, while rescue operations are still underway.
173 South Koreans and 2 Thai nationals were on board the flight.
According to Reuters, the crash was the first fatal accident in the history of Jeju Air, one of the South Korea’s low-cost airlines which began operations in 2005.
Local media reported the deadly accident may have been caused by birds getting caught in the plane’s systems.
