NiMet to Unveil 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has announced that it will present the 2025 Seasonal Climate Prediction (SCP) to the public on Tuesday, February 4, 2025.

This year’s event, themed “The Role of Early Warnings towards a Climate-Resilient Aviation Industry for Sustainable Socio-Economic Development,” will highlight key climatic forecasts and their implications for various sectors.

The SCP, which provides annual projections of climatic variables such as rainfall and temperature, is a critical document produced by NiMet to fulfill its mandate of advising the government and the public on weather, climate, and water-related issues.

According to NiMet’s Director General and Chief Executive Officer, Prof. Charles Anosike, the SCP will serve as a vital tool for stakeholders across multiple sectors.

“The Seasonal Climate Prediction highlights vital weather and climate information that may affect socio-economic activities in sectors such as Agriculture, Aviation, Disaster Risk Management, Health, Oil and Gas, Telecommunication, Tourism, Transport, Power, and Water Resources Management,” Prof. Anosike stated.

He further emphasized that the document will outline the socioeconomic implications of expected rainfall and temperature patterns while also detailing critical climate information.

The SCP is recognized as a national resource, and its public presentation attracts participants from both public and private sectors, development partners, NGOs, farmers’ associations, and the diplomatic community.

The event will be officiated by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Mr. Festus Keyamo, SAN.

He will also unveil the SCP summary for policymakers, translations in three major Nigerian languages, and the State of the Climate in Nigeria report.
