Abia medical doctors will henceforth receive 500k as monthly salary while nurses will be paid monthly salary of 300k by Abia state government led by His Excellency Dr Alex Otti, 9News reports.
Also, all health workers under the employment of the Abia State Government will, from the 1st May 2025, receive new salaries. This follows the new approval signed into law by the Governor, Alex Otti.
Those to benefit directly are medical doctors, nurses, pharmacists, physiotherapists, optometrists, physiotherapists, medical laboratory scientists and radiographers.
The new salaries are captured within the Abia State Health Workers Salary Scale (ASHWOSS).
Commissioner for Health, Dr Enoch Ogbonnaya announced the new approvals on Wednesday stating that ASWOSS is at par with the federal salary structure for health workers.
Ogbonnaya said the governor also approved the employment of 771 health workers comprising doctors, nurses, pharmacists, medical lab scientists, physiotherapists , radiographers and other categories of healthcare practitioners.
The number, he explained, was based on the result of a needs assessment carried out across the health facilities and agencies of the Ministry of Health.
With this applauded development in Abia state Nigeria, doctors and nurses will reduce their fleeing to developed counties for greener pastures in the name of low salary scale. This will also reduce the trending slogan “Jappa” which implies running away from Nigeria for lack of improved government and people’s welfare as gathered by 9News.
