The Nigerian Air Force (NAF)’s air component under Operation Fansan Yamma has killed scores of terrorists migrating in a convoy from Kebbi to Zamfara state.
Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, Director of Public Relations and Information, said in a statement on Thursday that the strikes were carried out on July 9 based on real-time intelligence.
He said the air interdiction targeted a large group of terrorists travelling on 150 motorcycles along the Yarbuga axis in Maru LGA of Zamfara, with each bike carrying at least two armed fighters.
Part of the statement read: “In a major offensive under Operation Fansan Yamma, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has neutralised scores of armed bandits in a series of precision airstrikes conducted on 9 July 2025.
“The strikes were based on real-time intelligence, which revealed the movement of close to 150 motorcycles in batches, each carrying about two armed terrorists near Yarbuga.”
Ejodame said the air force aircraft engaged the convoy after confirming the hostile presence, resulting in significant casualties.
“Survivors were seen fleeing on foot and motorcycles, as air assets maintained persistent overwatch and executed follow-up strikes, effectively disrupting enemy withdrawal routes,” he added.
He said ground troops carried out a mop-up operation the next morning and discovered the bodies of terrorists, weapons, and several burnt motorcycles.
“This joint air–ground operation dealt a significant blow to bandit networks in the region,” he said.
