Despite the political euphoria following Mr. Peter Obi’s recent declaration with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Hon. Longers Anyanwu has described the party as dead on arrival in Imo State while declaring his intention to contest the Okigwe Senatorial Zone seat in 2027 on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Anyanwu, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made this optimistic assertion on Friday when he hosted a well-attended political sensitization meeting of critical APC stakeholders at his ancestral compound in his palatial, politically conscious, and populous Amuzi Ward in Obowo Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to the astute politician, popularly known as Ebubedike Obowo, “I sympathize with ADC, Peter Obi’s new political party, because they have arrived late—more so, dead on arrival.
“Our people have comfortably boarded the APC train, and the party is already on a safe and victorious cruise in Imo State and other South-East states,” he assured.
Anyanwu further expressed gratitude to APC members in his ward for their steadfastness, large-heartedness, and openness in accommodating new members and honourably absorbing members of other opposition political parties into the APC.
Similarly, party leaders present reported that Obowo Local Government Area is 95 per cent APC compliant.
Anyanwu, however, expressed disappointment over the lack of political foresight among a few individuals from the council area, especially those in the diaspora, who still believe they are in opposition with what he described as “phantom opposition clubs called political parties.”
The high point of the high-profile political meeting was the declaration by the chief host, Hon. Longers Anyanwu, to run for the Okigwe Senatorial Zone election under the platform of the APC in the next political dispensation.
His declaration received a resounding affirmative acceptance from all in attendance, including APC ward executives, councillors, LGA executives, the LGA council chairman, Princess Nkechi Anyanwu, Chief Mrs. Igwe (Ugosimba), and veteran politicians such as Chief Longinus Imocha Anyanwu, Chief Mathew Okoo, and a host of other leaders.
