The Nigeria Army has announced plans to recruit and train 28,000 additional soldiers as part of efforts to strengthen its major manpower and intensify operations against terrorism, banditry and other security threats across the country.
Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, disclosed the plan during a briefing ahead of the 2026 Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) in Abuja.
According to the Army, the recruitment drive is part of broader reforms that include establishing additional brigades and units, while continuously reviewing its force structure to close deployment gaps and respond more effectively to emerging security challenges nationwide.
The Army said the additional personnel will enhance operational effectiveness and reinforce ongoing efforts to restore peace and security across the country.
