The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested a 48-year-old Lagos-based businessman, Nwankwo Onyebuchi, after allegedly discovering 1.55kg of cocaine concealed inside the walls and railings of his luggage at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos., while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to India.
The suspect a marble dealer, was arrested on Sunday, August 16, 2026 at the departure hall of Terminal ll while preparing to board a Qatar Airways flight to New Delhi, India.
NDLEA operatives reportedly discovered the cocaine during a search of his check-in luggage. During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed that he had sold his marble business and other assets to raise N23 million to purchase the consignment, hoping to sell it in India for about N100 million.
The agency said the suspect is currently in custody and would face prosecution.
In another operation in Lagos, NDLEA operatives acting on intelligence raided a warehouse located within a residential compound, the raid conducted between Friday August 7 and Saturday, August 8, led to the recovery of 3,776 cartoons containing 377,600 bottles of codeine-based syrup, valued at more than 2.6 billion, and 324kg of Colorado cannabis, estimated at N972 million.
