A 38-year-old Islamic teacher, Sagir Sani, has been remanded by a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Yola, Adamawa State, after he was accused of allegedly defiling and sexually assaulting two female students, aged 8 and 9, during Quranic classes.
According to the police prosecutor, ASP Zakka Musa, the alleged incident occurred behind the school classrooms in Numan Local Government Area, after the teacher allegedly lure the girls to the secluded area.
The case was reportedly brought to the attention of the police on August 7, 2026, after the mother of one of the alleged victims filed a complaint at the Numan Divisional Police Headquarters.
Sani was arraigned on charges including indecent treatment, sexual assault and defilement. He pleaded not guilty to the allegations.
The prosecution requested an adjournment to enable it to forward the case diary to the Department of Public Prosecutions for legal advice.The court subsequently ordered Sani be remanded pending further proceedings.
The allegations remain before the court, and the defendants is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
