Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has said he would become the first target should President Bola Ahmed Tinubu lose the 2027 presidential election to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or Peter Obi.
Speaking during a media parley on Wednesday, September 2, Wike said he would suffer the repercussions especially from Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi.
He reiterated his support for Tinubu’s re-election, insisting he has on regrets over his political stance.
“I will be the first politician. I know they will come for my head”, he said.
According to the minister, he was under no illusions about the risks of his position but maintained that he would not shy away from confronting the President’s opponents.
The former Rivers State governor said the possibility of political consequences had not weakened his resolve to campaign for the President, insisting that he had no regrets about openly identifying with Tinubu.
Wike further stated that he remained focused solely for Tinubu’s victory regardless of the personal political cost.
“Each day I sleep thinking about the president’s re-election. Everything I am doing now is about the president’s re-election”, he stated.
The minister added that criticisms trailing his support for Tinubu do not bother him, stressing that he has been vilified more than any politician for his loyalty.
Wike has repeatedly maintained that he had never concealed his political intentions, arguing that his support for Tinubu should therefore not come as a surprise to anyone.
The minister’s comments underline the extent to which he has tied his current political engagement to Tinubu’s re-election bid, even as his continued membership of the PDP leaves him outside the ruling APC.
