Tension has reportedly risen along the Sokoto–Zamfara axis following an alleged ambush on a vehicle conveying personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
According to information reaching our newsroom, the police vehicle was reportedly travelling towards Sokoto when it came under attack by armed gunmen suspected to be bandits or terrorists operating along the highway.
The attackers were said to have opened fire on the vehicle, forcing the officers into a dangerous confrontation with the assailants.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that some of the police officers may have been killed in the attack*, while details concerning the number of casualties remain unclear as of the time of filing this report.
The exact location of the alleged incident, the identity of the affected officers and the circumstances surrounding the attack could not immediately be independently established.
The development comes amid continuing security concerns across the North-West, where armed groups have repeatedly targeted security personnel, travellers and communities.
Recent incidents have underscored the security challenges along major routes linking Sokoto and Zamfara. On October 27, 2026, troops reportedly came under a terrorist ambush along the Gusau–Sokoto Major Supply Route in Zamfara State but successfully repelled the attackers.
Similarly, the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, recently reported another terrorist ambush along the Anka–Guruzu Road in Zamfara State, where troops engaged the attackers and restored movement along the affected route.
The latest alleged attack, if confirmed, would further raise concerns over the safety of security personnel operating and travelling through the increasingly volatile Sokoto–Zamfara corridor.
Residents and motorists using the route are expected to remain vigilant and exercise caution, particularly in areas identified as vulnerable to attacks.
9News Nigeria is monitoring the situation and will provide further updates as soon as credible information becomes available from the Nigeria Police Force, military authorities or other verified security sources.
