The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Lagos State Command, has arrested two women, age 48 and 50, over alleged production of adulterated “Barkas Juice” at an illegal factory in Badagry.
NSCDC said its operatives conducted five days of surveillance before carrying out the operation between Saturday, September 19, and Sunday, September 20, 2026, in collaboration with a Nigerian Army formation in the area. The suspects were reportedly caught during production.
According to preliminary findings, the juice was allegedly produced with water, synthetic flavourings, industrial sweeteners, artificial colourants, preservatives, without real fruit.
The Corps also alleged that the product carried a fake NAFDAC registration number and was distributed to markets in Lagos, Benin City and other parts of Nigeria.
Items recovered from the factory included a truck, cartons of suspected adulterated juice, machinery, chemicals, drums and a gas cylinder.
In a now-viral online video, Lagos State Commandant Adedotun Keshinro and the NSCDC spokesperson, Oluwaseun Abolurin, said the operation was conducted after operatives encountered resistance from youths in the area.
He alleged that the products branded “Barkas Juice” were produced and uncovered at Talabi Onilegbale Street, Aradagun, Olorunda Local Council Development Area, on September 19, 2026 at about 9:00p.m.
The Corps further alleged that underage children between the ages of 15 and 16 were being recruited in the production of the juice.
NSCDC Lagos Commandant Adedotun Keshinro ordered the factory shut down and said the suspects would face further investigation and prosecution, with the Corps set to collaborate with NAFDAC and other relevant agencies.
