Renowned Islamic cleric Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir has alleged that Muslims are being marginalised in Plateau State, citing what he described as the dominance of Christians in key government and security positions.
Jingir said the Commissioner of Police, the Governor, the DSS State Coordinator and the General Officer Commanding (GOC) are all Christians.
“In Plateau, the Commissioner of Police is a Christian, the Governor and Deputy Governor are Christians, the DSS State Coordinator is a Christian, and the GOC is Christian. Yet, we Muslims are more than Christians in the state. They are marginalising us in this state”, Jingir said.
His remarks come amid an ongoing public debate over religious representation and political appointments in Plateau and across Nigeria.
Jingir’s claim regarding the relative population of Muslims and Christians in Plateau State is a matter of demographic contention, as Nigeria does not conduct an official census that provides a current religious breakdown of the population by state.
