The General Overseer of Dayspring Assembly, Obosi, Pastor Harrison Anazodo, was on Monday arraigned in a wheelchair before the Anambra State High Court, Awka, at the start of his criminal trial.
Anazodo faces seven counts bordering on alleged promotion of wealth through supernatural means, murder, abduction and unlawful separation of persons from their families. He pleaded not guilty.
He was brought from the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, where he has reportedly been in ICU for three weeks.
The cleric gained notoriety in June when Agunechemba operatives arrested him over viral video claims that he convinced married women in his church to become his wives and that 11 babies were found in his residence. The arrest was part of the state’s crackdown under the Homeland Security Law, 2025.
He was alleged to have married over 75 wifes as of the date of arrest.
Defence counsel, W. O. Abonyi, applied for bail, but prosecutor C. V. Ononye opposed, citing short notice.
Justice Jude Obiora stepped down the bail hearing, ordered Anazodo returned to the hospital for treatment, and adjourned to October 12.
