Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, has enjoined fellow citizens to embrace unity as a panacea to the current political imbroglio in the state.
Ikpeazu, who made the call yesterday while speaking at the 25th anniversary celebration of the state, appealed to “all those who are fanning the embers of disunity and playing the drums of hate to immediately cease and desist”.
The governor appealed to all Abians to unite and pursue the aspirations of the founding fathers in the overall interest of the state.
His words: “I urge all to , as a mark of respect to the founding fathers of the state, sheath our swords and come together for the greater good of Abia State.”
Ikpeazu noted that Abia parades a galaxy of highly enterprising and accomplished personalities from different spheres of life who should use their various endowments to transform the state.
“Abia State has illustrious sons and daughters who have excelled admirably in their various chosen fields. Now is the time to put those expertise , resources, and passion together for the good of our state”.
He saluted the courage of the founding fathers of the state as well as the past leaders for their sacrifices in advancing the state on the path of greatness, noting that despite the harsh economic realities, his administration would continue to strive to uphold the visions of the founding fathers.
He said the state would emerge stronger from its current challenges, even as he thanked the founding fathers for evolving the Abia Charter of Equity which recommends power rotation among the three senatorial zones.
