About 9News Nigeria: Nigeria’s favourite news source

9News Nigeria is a Nigerian digital news platform owned and operated by Nine Communications Nigeria Limited. Founded in 2016 by Australian-based Nigerian publisher Obinna Sunday Ejianya, the platform covers Nigerian news, African affairs and international developments that matter to our readers.

Our purpose is to keep people informed, encourage public accountability and contribute to meaningful conversations about Nigeria’s future. We believe readers deserve reporting that helps them understand what happened, why it matters and how it affects their lives.

Who We Are

9News Nigeria was established with a clear conviction: access to accurate information helps people make better decisions and gives them a stronger voice in the affairs of their communities and country.

Through 9newsng.com, we publish breaking news, developing stories, explanatory reports, interviews, analysis and investigative reporting. Our coverage includes politics, governance, business, the economy, security, entertainment, sports, health, relationships and wider social issues.

Nigeria is at the heart of our work. We also look beyond its borders, covering events across Africa and the world and examining their relevance to Nigerians at home and in the diaspora.

We want our readers to understand both the challenges facing their communities and the opportunities available to them. That means asking difficult questions, paying attention to overlooked concerns and reporting on ideas, enterprise and achievements that deserve recognition.

Why We Do This Work

Information shapes decisions. It influences how citizens vote, how businesses invest, how families plan and how public officials respond to the people they serve. When information is inaccurate or incomplete, the consequences can reach far beyond a headline.

9News Nigeria exists to contribute to a better-informed society. We seek to explain public issues, examine decisions made in positions of power and bring attention to matters affecting everyday Nigerians.

Our interest in Nigeria’s progress also informs how we cover the wider world. Where useful, we examine how other countries approach governance, infrastructure, education, healthcare and economic development. Such comparisons should help readers consider what can be learned, adapted or improved within Nigeria’s own circumstances.

We believe journalism should make room for honest scrutiny and constructive ideas. Both are necessary for a society that wants to move forward.

Our Mission

To deliver trusted news and impactful content that shapes public opinion.

We pursue this mission by providing accurate, informative reporting, encouraging accountability and helping readers understand issues affecting Nigeria, Africa and the wider world. Our work aims to support informed decisions among citizens and leaders alike.

Our Vision

Our vision is to build an internationally respected African media organisation, recognised for credible journalism, editorial independence and a clear understanding of the communities it serves.

Breaking News and Top Stories in NigeriaWe want 9News Nigeria to become a dependable source for anyone seeking to understand Nigeria and Africa, wherever they live. Through our reporting, we aim to strengthen understanding between Africa and the wider world and give African experiences, achievements and concerns the attention they deserve.

Our Editorial Values

Trust must be earned through the work we publish and the way we respond to our readers. The following principles guide the journalism we seek to practise.

Accuracy and context: We aim to establish the facts and explain their significance. Readers should be able to distinguish confirmed information from allegations, opinion and matters that remain uncertain.

Editorial independence: 9News Nigeria is non-partisan and is not aligned with any political party. Our reporting should be guided by evidence and the public interest.

Fairness: We seek to represent people and issues fairly, consider relevant perspectives and avoid allowing personal or political preferences to determine our conclusions.

Accountability: We believe public officials and institutions should answer for decisions that affect the people they serve. We also recognise our responsibility to listen to readers, examine concerns about our reporting and correct inaccuracies.

Respect for people: Behind many news stories are individuals and families whose lives may be affected by publication. We aim to report with care, particularly when covering victims, children and vulnerable people.

From the Publisher: Obinna Sunday Ejianya

“I firmly believe that knowledge is power and that knowledge stems from information. By providing accurate information, we empower individuals to make informed decisions.”

— Obinna Sunday Ejianya, Founder and Publisher, 9News Nigeria

I founded 9News Nigeria in 2016 because I believed that access to reliable information could help our people make better decisions and demand more from those entrusted with leadership.

Living in Australia gave me another perspective on the relationship between public institutions, citizens and the media. It strengthened my interest in what Nigeria could achieve and in the role journalism could play in that progress. After discussing the idea with a friend in the diaspora, I committed funds to establishing the platform and began building what became 9News Nigeria.

The conviction behind that decision remains the same today. Citizens need information they can use to understand their country, choose their leaders and assess the decisions made on their behalf. Leaders, in turn, need to know that their actions will receive public scrutiny.

The media carries considerable influence. What we choose to report, the questions we ask and the context we provide can shape public understanding. That influence comes with responsibility. We must take care with the facts, recognise potential conflicts of interest and resist pressures that could compromise our judgement.

For me, independent journalism means having the freedom to ask necessary questions, whoever holds power. It also means being willing to acknowledge progress, listen to different perspectives and examine our own mistakes. The same standards we expect from others should inform our work.

Nigeria and Africa have important stories to tell: stories of hardship and injustice, but also of ingenuity, courage, enterprise and achievement. Our responsibility is to report those stories honestly and help our readers see their significance.

My hope is that 9News Nigeria will continue to earn the confidence of its readers through useful reporting and a consistent commitment to the public interest. We owe the people we serve accuracy, fairness and the courage to ask questions that matter.
