Adam and the unseen yoke of responsibility

Brothers in the house. Can we talk a little?

We all understand that Adam is the luckiest man to have lived in this world. He didn’t need to wait to grow up. He was created grown up. He didn’t need to go for any form of training. He was created with skills. He didn’t need to find a job. He was handed one. He didn’t need to look for accommodation, he was given one without rent payment. He didn’t need to look for the love of his life, all he did was to sleep and wake up to get one. Finally, he didn’t need to pay bride price to a father-in-law. This last one is very understandable if you’re from Nigeria (perhaps everywhere in Africa); all Adam needed to do was to say some few line of words and the exceptionally beautiful woman became his wife.

Do you wish life had been this way to you? Do you wish you woke up one morning and things just turned out fine with little or no efforts? How I wish life happens like that but as we all know, it doesn’t.

Earlier on this post, I made mention of Adam being the luckiest man the world has known. Everything he needed was in ample supply. Seriously, anyone who finds himself in Adam’s state may think he needs not work for anything. Unfortunately, life is not always that way. Adam was responsible for something he had little knowledge of, and that is ‘The Human Race’.

Eternity was hanging on Adam but he never realised it. Life and death were looking straight at him but his eyes were shut. In the euphoria of excitement he blew away all his chances to give the human race a perpetual, golden climate.

Like Adam, the average boy and young man is bearing responsibility. A boy will turn out to be a man, then maybe a husband, a father and leader in the community. Even though the women are fast climbing society’s ladders, most leadership positions are still occupied by men. This means, the boy/young man of today will eventually become, perhaps, the decision maker of several institutions tomorrow. It is therefore penitent that the boy child develops circumspectly.

Dear young man. Are you aware of the burden of responsibility that will embrace you? With your time contending about Arsenal and Chelsea, do you think these endless squabbles will make you a better husband, father and leader of society?

It’s time to have a rethink. The world’s platform of influence is revolving and you ought to be among the new, emerging thought leaders.
