Africa’s Most Streamed Artists on Spotify: Wizkid Tops the Chart, Nigerian Artists Dominate

A recent Spotify data reveals that Africa’s top-streamed artists is led by Nigerian superstar Wizkid with a remarkable 7.14 billion streams. 

This list displays the rapid international growth of Afrobeats and African sounds, driven by artists from Nigeria and South Africa.

In the number two spot is Burna Boy, another Nigerian giant, boasting 6.76 billion streams. 

Known for his fusion of Afrobeats, reggae, and dancehall, Burna Boy’s appeal has made him one of Africa’s biggest musical exports. 

Rising star Rema secures the third spot with 4.13 billion streams, propelled by hits like “Calm Down,” which went viral globally and resonated particularly with younger audiences.

Afrobeats sensation Tems, celebrated for her sultry vocals and collaborations with international acts like Drake and Rihanna, ranks fourth with 2.96 billion streams. 

South African artists also make a strong showing, led by alternative rock band Seether with 2.6 billion streams and newcomer Tyla at 1.58 billion streams. 

Nigerian artists, however, continue to dominate the Spotify charts with names like CKay (2.33 billion), Davido (2.13 billion), and Ayra Starr (2.093 billion) occupying key spots.

This signals the increasing interest in African genres across global streaming platforms as Afrobeats and other African genres gain momentum.
