Amaechi Is Not an Ikwerre Man, I Have Documents to Prove It — Elder Wihioka Tells Journalists

PORT HARCOURT — Political tension appears to be rising in Rivers State following a fresh claim by Elder Chidi Wihoka, who alleged that former Rivers State Governor and former Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, is not an Ikwerre son and threatened to release documents which he said would support his position.

The controversy emerged after members and supporters of the Rainbow Coalition in Ikwerre Local Government Area, Rivers State, attended a church thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God.

The event was reportedly attended by political supporters and leaders of the coalition, including the former Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike, and the current Council Chairman, Hon. Charles Wobodo.

According to supporters, the thanksgiving service was organised to appreciate God and offer prayers as political activities begin to gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.

After the church service, journalists interviewed Elder Chidi Wihoka, during which he made strong remarks directed at Amaechi.

Wihoka alleged that he possesses documents relating to the history and *balkanisation of Ikwerre, which, according to him, could be used to challenge Amaechi’s Ikwerre ancestry.

In his words:

He used to be my son. If he speaks again, I will release a document that will prove he is not an Ikwerre son. The document has to do with the balkanisation of Ikwerre.”

The statement has further intensified political discussions and renewed attention to the growing war of words among political figures and supporters in Rivers State as the countdown to the 2027 general elections gradually begins.

However, Elder Wihoka’s allegation remains his personal claim, and the documents he referred to were not presented during the interview. There was also no response from Amaechi or his representatives at the time of filing this report.

The development is expected to generate further political debate, particularly within Ikwerre ethnic and political circles, where Amaechi remains a prominent and influential political figure.

As political alignments and rivalries continue to emerge ahead of the 2027 elections, observers will be watching closely to see whether Elder Wihoka releases the documents he claims to possess and whether Amaechi or his political camp will respond to the allegation.
