A US man who fled Sydney hours after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman has been brought back to face charges.
An American man who allegedly raped a woman in Sydney and fled the country just hours after has been brought back to Australia to face charges.
The 35-year-old-man was extradited after being arrested in New York on a federal warrant in January and is accused of sexually and indecently assaulting a 21-year-old woman at a Carlton unit, in Sydney’s south, in June 2017.
He was holidaying in Sydney at the time and police say the man “left Australia in the hours following the incident”.
“NSW Police subsequently applied for a NSW warrant and an extradition application was submitted to the Attorney-General’s Department,” a statement from police said.

The 35-year-old was arrested on January 19 in New York and detectives from NSW met local authorities in Los Angeles last Thursday to bring him back to Australia.
“They took custody of the man and he was accompanied by detectives on a flight to Sydney, before being taken to Kogarah Police Station yesterday (Saturday) morning,” the statement says.
He was then charged with two counts of sexual intercourse without consent and five charges related to assault with an act of indecency.
