Nollywood actress, Iniobong Ekim Edo popularly known as Ini Edo has opened up about her fertility struggles, revealing that she suffered six miscarriages which led to her to choose surrogacy to have her child.
Speaking on the new season of Young, Famous & African, the Akwa Ibom-born actress explained that she had difficulty carrying pregnancies to term, promoting her decision to explore surrogacy.
When asked by her co-star, Luis, If she had a child, Ini confirmed she has a daughter.
When further questioned about her relationship with the child’s father, Ini revealed, “No, I’m not married, and he doesn’t have anything to do with us, It’s just me and my child”.
Her child who is now three years old, brought joy after a long difficult journey.
In a confessional, she explained her decision to keep her journey private.
“My journey is personal, and I haven’t really talked about it.
“I went through surrogacy. There was no man in my life at that time, and I wanted to have a child. There are different ways to achieve that”.
Ini Edo also revealed that her decision to opt for surrogacy came after enduring six miscarriages despite undergoing IVF procedures.
“I never thought I would have fertility issues, but it happened. When it seems like it wasn’t going to work the way I wanted, and I wasn’t getting younger, I asked myself, what are my options?…Surrogacy presented itself as the best choice, and I embrace it”.
