Jos-based artist and illustrator, Pokyes Gideon Mitu, popularly know as, Yahir has shared his latest collection of drawings with 9News Nigeria.
Speaking on his latest artwork, titled “We Live Inside a Thought II,” Yahir explains that the drawing examines the often-unnoticed forces that shape people’s understanding of reality.

We Live Inside a Thought is a continuing artistic series, with Parts I and II exploring the journey so far.
“We Live Inside a Thought is really about how the things around us become part of how we see the world.
“A lot of what we believe comes from what we’ve been taught, what we’ve experienced and what we’ve been exposed to. Sometimes we don’t even realise we’re looking at life through all these things.”
According to the artist, the concept is particularly relevant to Nigeria, where people can share the same physical environment while developing widely different interpretations of it.
“I think Nigeria is interesting because we’re all living in the same place, but we can experience and understand that place very differently,” he added.
Through the drawing, Yahir, who is sometimes called Sukan, invites viewers to look beyond what is immediately visible and question the ideas, experiences and influences that have shaped their own perspectives.
The Jos-based creative believes Nigeria provides a particularly interesting lens through which to examine perception.
