The United States President Donald Trump has mourned the death of country music icon Dolly Parton, who died on at the age of 80 on Tuesday, August 25.
Trump described the music icon as ‘one of the greatest country singers, and fer beyond, EVER’ as he paid tribute to the music icon.
In her honour, Trump ordered that US flags to be lowered at half-staff for one week beginning at 6pm. on Tuesday in honour of country music legend Dolly Parton.
The family of the country music icon, philanthropist announced her death on Tuesday in a video statement on social media.
Talking to Truth Special, Trump said her passing was a true loss for millions of people:
“Very sad to report that Dolly Parton, one of the greatest Country singers, and far beyond, ever, has just passed away. This is a true loss for millions of people.
“There has never been anyone like her, and never will. In her honor, I am lowering the American flag throughout the United States for a one-week period beginning tonight at 6:00pm. Rest in Peace, Dolly! The World loves you”, Trump wrote.
Parton was celebrated worldwide for her decades-long music career and humanitarian work, including her Imagination Library, which promotes childhood literacy. Her cause of death had been announced at the time of reporting.
9News Nigeria reports that Parton wrote hundreds of songs, including classics like — Jolene, Coast of Many Colours, and I Will Always Love You, with more than 100 million records sold worldwide and more than 1 billion online streams.
Her career was forever influenced by her upbringing as one of 12 children born into what she called a “dirt poor” Tennessee family.
