Stakeholders in the Niger Delta region have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to pick a competent candidate this time around as Special Adviser to the Amnesty Programme.
Stating this in a statement made available to 9News Nigeria the Ijaw People’s Development Front, noted that the call was necessary because of the ongoing search by the Federal Government for a Special Adviser to the Amnesty Program.
“We want a competent and dedicated person for that office who knows the struggles of the Niger Delta people,” the statement said.
While expressing concern over the purported push by the National Security Adviser (NSA) to the President , Maj. General Monguno, to make his former course mate, Col. Abel Dadis (rtd), Coordinator of the Amnesty Program, the statement noted: “We are dismayed that the NSA is planning to impose a candidate like Col Abel (rtd), a former chief of staff to Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd), former Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme, who was sacked for incompetence and gross corruption by President Buhari.”
” How can Gen Monguno appoint a man who worked with Boroh who’s being investigated by the EFFC and standing trial for corruption and embezzlement of funds?”.
The statement added that such a move was a ploy to cover up the massive looting and rot in the Amnesty Programme in the past five years.
