Mr’ Joe Igbokwe, a notable All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain and staunch supporter of the existing president has expressed deep concerns over the economic hardship Nigerians are currently facing under the otrsdnt administration. In a recent statement, Mr Joe Igbokwe reiterated the skyrocketing cost of living, particularly pointing out that a bag of rice now costs over ₦100,000.
In a Facebook post on Friday, September 27, Mr Joe Igbokwe lamented the increasing inflation, expressing his frustration and stating that the people who will save Nigeria from the ongoing economic meltdown are not in existence yet particularly in the political space
“With all the rice mills we have in Nigeria, a bag of rice skyrocketed to ₦100k and more.
Without exaggeration, I am constrained to say that the men and women that will rescue this country from self-inflicted pains and tears are not born yet,”Mr Joe Igbokwe expressed.
This isn’t the first time the APC chieftain has voiced concerns. Just a week earlier,Mr Joe Igbokwe criticised the recent hike in electricity tariffs, pleading with the President to reconsider the policy. He warned that if left unattended to, the rising costs of basic utilities would have dire effects on businesses and households across the country.
Mr Joe Igbokwe’s post generated a flurry of reactions on social media, with many Nigerians sharing their own grievances and frustrations about the current state of affairs.
He expressed that been a long-time supporter of the President and the APC administration, Serving under multiple Lagos State governors since 1999, Mr Joe Igbokwe has frequently led the policies of the ruling party.
However, his recent criticism marks a notable departure from his usual stance, showing that even staunch allies of the government are feeling the strain of current economic challenges.
