The Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA in Anambra
State, Sir Norbert Obi, has urged other political parties to emulate
the responsiveness of his party and the State government towards the
masses in this period of Covid-19 pandemic.
Sir Norbert made the call while exchanging views with newsmen in his
office in Awka.
The State APGA Chairman was reacting to series of criticisms of the
Anambra State government by a rival political party over its approach
to the containment of coronavirus and donation of food items to the
elderly and youths in the one hundred and eighty-one Communities
across the State.
He described the utterances of the opposition political party as
infantile, noting that Ndi Anambra are actually expecting the
political party which according to him is dominated by rich men and
women in the State to as a united group donate largesse to less
privileged persons in the State through their party as was recently
done by the All Progressives Grand Alliance APGA.
Sir Norbert observed that instead of acting as a united front,
governorship aspirants of the rival political party are engaging in
individual and self serving desperate actions totally bereft of
altruism, pointing out that such is a clear evidence of lack of unity
of purpose in the party which will count against it in the 2021
gubernatorial election in the State.
The Anambra State APGA Chairman noted that issues concerning the fight
against the dreaded coronavirus are beyond partisan politics and
emphasized that any measure aimed at saving lives in this trying
period should be encouraged by all right thinking and well meaning
persons and groups.
He maintained that no other State governments in Nigeria has surpassed
the Obiano administration in the sensitization of the citizenry,
mobilization and retraining of medical personnel as well as provision
of basic facilities for containment of Covid-19, adding that this
explains the prompt treatment and discharge of the only reported index
case in the State by the government after he was certified negative by
the Nigeria Center for Disease Control.
Sir Norbert also commended the Obiano administration for convincing
many good spirited individuals and corporate organizations to donate
into the accounts of the Anambra Covid-19 Action Committee and for
giving succour to thousands of indigent persons and families in
different parts of the State.
