Anambra Transport Ministry Intensifies Strict Enforcement Of Ban On Interstate Movement

Anambra state Ministry of Transport has commenced the enforcement of Governor Willie Obiano’s directive on interstate movement, to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

The Commissioner for Transport, Dr. Christian Madubuko, who led a task force team to Amansea boundary, discovered that apart from the haulage trucks, that were allowed to pass after thorough checks, some motorists and cyclists still flaunt the directive and freely transport goods and persons across the boundary.

During the inspection, they also discovered some hidden parks were vehicles that flaunt the directive were impounded by the task force team, while the Commissioner liaised with the security personnel and men of the OCHA Brigade on ways to effectively carry out the directive especially against those walking through the boundary.

At the Ebenebe boundary, the Transition Committee chairman for Awka North council area, Mr. Ferdinand Onwuje and some community youths, together with security operatives stationed at the boundary were seen enforcing the directive.

In his remark, Dr. Mmadubuko, who reemphasized that only intra state movement is allowed, revealed that in order to ensure strict obedience to the governor’s directive, community vigilante service, youths and some government appointees will be drafted to work in synergy with the police to ensure total compliance.

He also noted that the water ways are not left out of the directive, as task force personnel have been deployed to the water ways, even though according to him, there are hitches but they are tightening the loose ends and appreciated the Mr. Onwuje and his team for showing commitment towards the directive.

Mr. Onwuje however appreciated the government for sending in security personnel to compliment their efforts in ensuring compliance.

Correspondent, Kenechukwu Chukwudi reports that over twenty-five vehicles were seized for engaging in commercial transport across the boundary, though some commuters feigned ignorance to government directive.
