British-Nigerian boxer Anthony Joshua has been discharged from a hospital in Lagos after a car crash on December 29 that killed two of his close associates, Sina Ghami, his strength and conditioning coach, and Latif “Latz” Ayodele, his trainer.
Joshua sustained minor injuries and was recovering under observation.
The crash involved his vehicle colliding with a stationary truck, and video showed him in pain as he exited the vehicle.

Authorities said the truck carrying Joshua struck a stationary truck late last Monday morning along Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, a major route linking Ogun State to Lagos.
Lagos State Commissioner Gbenga Omotosho said Joshua was clinically fit to continue recovery at home, Joshua and his mother attended the funeral before the repatriation of his friends.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, issued the statement on X, saying Joshua was discharged late Wednesday afternoon after being “deemed clinically fit to recuperate from home”.
Anthony Joshua and his mother were at the funeral home in Lagos this afternoon to pay their final respects to his two friends as they were being prepared for repatriation scheduled for later this evening”, Omotosho said.
The incident has renewed attention on Nigeria’s road safety record.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) reported 5,421 deaths from 9,570 road accidents in 2024, representing 340 more fatalities than recorded in 2023.
Joshua, whose parents are Nigerian, last fought on December 19, defeating YouTuber turned boxer Jake Paul as he continues his pursuit of future title opportunities.
He holds a professional record of 29 wins and 4 defeats, with 26 victories by knockout.
