The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has begun a two-week vacation outside Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The party said the break would allow Yilwatda to rest, recharge and reflect on the responsibilities facing the ruling party as preparations for the elections intensify.
In a statement on Wednesday, Abimbola Tooki, Special Adviser to the chairman on Media and Information Strategy, said Yilwatda had spent his first year in office engaged in extensive consultations, travels and strategic meetings.
The APC said he had worked with the National Working Committee (NWC), governors, National Assembly members, state party structures and other stakeholders to strengthen the party.
It listed the successful national convention, consolidation of internal structures and the conduct of primary elections at various levels among the key achievements recorded under his leadership.
The party stressed that the vacation should not be viewed as Yilwatda stepping away from his responsibilities.
Instead, it said the break would enable him to “recharge and reflect” on the challenges ahead, particularly the 2027 elections and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
Yilwatda is also expected to use the period to refine strategies for the party’s next phase and prepare for an upcoming NWC retreat.
The retreat will review the APC’s progress, address emerging challenges and strengthen coordination ahead of the 2027 electoral season.
The party said Yilwatda’s absence would not affect its operations, as the NWC would continue to carry out its constitutional responsibilities.
Yilwatda is expected to return to Nigeria after the two-week vacation and resume his official engagements.
