Bad Roads in Anambra State and Potholes, Gradually Becoming the State’s Trademark.

(Its consequences and a need for the state government to commence operation zero potholes on bad roads).

Good roads are in no doubt one of the means of connectivity in our society. the idea is that it connects one town to another, but when the road is in bad condition, it leads to the breakage of that connections; it reduces the number of goods and people that troop into a particular State. This case of bad road is rather becoming too alarming in Anambra state.

Potholes has become a hindrance to many travelers and different means of transportation in the State; believe you me, nobody wants to go through a bumpy ride just because he wants to go to a near by town. In Anambra State, potholes are increasingly becoming our trade mark and unfortunately a norm And this ugly development is not healthy for the economic growth and well-being of the State.

It is obvious that the number of bad roads in Anambra state is gradually escalating as day passes by, its has become something that the people of the State are made making a caricature of on social media. We must be sincere to ourselves and call the Government to order. Anambra State is now seen as a playing ground in the eyes of some people, owing to the fact that the government have really not lived up to expectation as it concern infrastructural development. The people now have the courage to do social media challenge with bad roads in Anambra, which is aimed at exposing majority of the roads that have not been given attention by the government in every corners of the State. potholes has now become a common factor in Anambra State, “that you cannot go to every road in the hook and knots of this state without potholes. This leaves a question from an old saying “is it the hair cutter that does not know his work or the razor that is not sharpened .

Anambra state is known to have one of the best road networks in Nigeria, but the recent neglect in maintaining and repairing the roads calls for immediate reaction / urgent action.

The conditions of roads in the state creates a whole lots of questions in the minds of it’s citizens. “whether the present government still has the interest of the people that voted them into power at heart”.

This case of bad roads in Anambra State has already sent some people to an untimely grave, as a result of accidents that emanated from these bad roads. In other words, it’s safe to say that majority or almost all the accidents that occurred within the state is as a result of the conditions of the road.

In a situation whereby one lane of the road is bad, it leaves the drivers with no choice but to drive through the other lane, hence leading to an auto crash, if care is not taken.

Even in the business sector, people finds it difficult to go about their business because of the conditions of the roads. One Cannon keep count of the number of vehicles transporting essential goods and services that get spoilt on the way, as a result of poor road condition in the state and hence delay in transportation.

The rate of poor state of road condition in the state has raised an alarm which questions the need of stipulating Billions of naira on road construction and repairs in the state, if the necessary action can not be followed

The poor conditions of the roads in the state has become an embarrassing factor in all ramifications, that people are mostly being delayed on there way.

Before now, a drive from Nnewi round about to awka is about 35 minutes drive, but because of the conditions of the state roads, people are mostly delayed on there way more than normal .

The poor road condition in the state has also increased the percentage of traffic jams withing the state, it is saddened to say that some of the delays and hold up people complains in “Eke Awka” is as a result of the bad conditions of the road.

It is imperative to say that all hand must be on deck, to save the state from this Gradually dilapidation of all major roads in Anambra state. I am also calling on the Anambra State Governor, His excellency, Gov. Willie Obiano, to act fast and make sure that all the affected roads are put in good shape.
