The 2019/2020 European football season has come to life. Around some of the major leagues in the world, we’ve been entertained with some breath-taking moments, captivating moves, waist-breaking dribbles, and beautiful goals.

The Spanish Laliga kicked-off last weekend and there has already been major surprises in the first games. Last season’s champions, FC Barcelona were stunned away from home by Athletic Bilbao in their season’s opener. In a game that Coach Ernesto Valverde decided to rest talisman, Lionel Messi, Barcelona struggled to create consistent clear chances despite their usual dominance on the ball. They would later suffer their first shock defeat of the season when Bilbao’s striker, Aritz Aduriz scored with a spectacular bicycle kick in the 89th minute of the match.

Another Spanish giant, Real Madrid were too hot for Celta Vigo as they won 3-1 with Kareem Benzema, Toni Kroos, and Lucas Vasquez getting on the score sheet for the Los Blancos first win to kick-off their campaign.

Elsewhere, in the English Premier League, the top game of the weekend was arguably between last season champions Manchester City, and UEFA Champions League finalist, Tottenham Hotspur. A disallowed goal from Gabriel Jesus ensured that Tottenham would be happy to go away with a 2-2 draw at the Etihad stadium. And Chelsea, under the tutelage of new coach Frank Lampard, were also held to a disappointing 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.

Tonight, Manchester United will slug it out against Wolverhampton Wanderers at Old Trafford in their second game of the season. Coach Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be expecting another 5-star performance from his team after they thumped Chelsea 4-0 in their first game two weekends ago.
