Bauchi State Police Command says it has arrested four armed security personnel allegedly found on illegal election duty at a polling unit in Disina State Constituency, Shira Local Government Area.
The suspects were allegedly found with eight firearms, including five AK-47 rifles, one G3 rifle, a pistol, a long-range tear gas/smoke gun launcher and a sharp knife.
The Police said preliminary investigation indicated that the suspects were mobilised to disrupt the electoral process and cause a breach of peace.
The suspects and recovered exhibits have been transferred to State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bauchi, for further investigation and prosecution.
The latest arrests come after the earlier arrest of about 50 operatives who allegedly claimed to be members of a state-owned security outfit at polling units in the constituency.
The Police Command warned that non-statutory security outfits and armed persons are prohibited at polling units and that anyone found violating the Electoral Act will be arrested.
