Bauchi State government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Federal Ministry of Health for the formal handover of General Hospital Misau to be upgraded into a Federal Medical Center.
The signing ceremony took place at Government House, Bauchi, with the coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Mohammed Ali Pate, leading the federal delegation and Governor Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi.
Speaking at the event, Prof. Pate commended Governor Mohammed for his support in facilitating the transformation of General Hospital into a Federal Medical Center.
Pate highlighted the many benefits that will accompany the upgrade, particularly the provision of improved healthcare services to the people of Bauchi State.
He also called on the state government to continue its support to ensure the success of the initiative.
In his response, Governor Mohammed expressed his appreciation to the federal government and the Ministry of Health for their continued interventions in the state’s health sector.
The governor reiterated his administration’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery in the state, noting the important benefits from the new medical center.
Similarly, the state government launched an emergency ambulance service aimed at assisting individuals with urgent health needs, particularly those who that cannot afford healthcare services.
The launch of this service is part of the state government’s broader effort to strengthen the health sector and ensure that healthcare is accessible to all.
Prof. Pate emphasized the importance of the ambulance service in promoting sustainable health development, noting that health is indeed wealth.
Recall that after the Federal Medical Center in Azare was upgraded, the federal authorities decided to move the Federal Medical Center designation to Misau, underscoring the importance of this region in the federal healthcare network.
