An Iman, Dahiru Abubakar, has been removed from Abdullah Bin Zubbair Mosque in Bauchi after allegedly promoting President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election and proposing to rename the mosque after him.
According to reports, the disagreement arose from the Imam’s sermons after prayers, during which he allegedly urged worshippers to stop blaming President Tinubu for the country’s worsening insecurity and economic challenges.
Abubakar was reportedly warned by the mosque committee over his comments, but the disagreement persisted, eventually leading to his removal from the position.
Explaining his position, the Imam said he had been preaching to worshippers to refrain from criticising Tinubu over the challenges facing the country and to consider giving the president another mandate in the 2027 general election.
“I have been preaching to the people to stop castigating President Tinubu for the insecurity and economic challenges. They prepared to vote for him and give him another mandate in 2027 to continue his mandate”, he reportedly said.
He further explained that his sermons focuses on encouraging people to fear God and rely on prayers for divine intervention in addressing the nation’s challenges.
According to him he believes that prayers and God’s intervention are essential to overcoming insecurity, adding that his position did not go well with the mosque committee.
“My preaching centered on telling people to embrace the fear of God and stop blaming leaders for the insecurity, particularly President Tinubu, because only God’s intervention can stop the challenges with the power of prayers, and that didn’t go down well with the committee of the mosque”, he said.
