Benue’s Security: PDP Condemns Gov Alia’s False Claims that “Benue Is Safe”

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Benue State strongly condemns the recent statements made by Governor Hyacinth Alia and his Director General of Homeland Security, Mr. Jacob Gbamwuan, which misrepresent the alarming security situation currently affecting our state.

Their assertion that “Benue is safe” is not only misleading but also deeply disrespectful to the countless families suffering from the tragic loss of lives due to the escalating attacks by herdsmen.

In light of the increasing frequency and brutality of these assaults, which have resulted in mass burials—including the recent tragedy in Oturkpo attended by our Deputy Governor, Dr. Sam Ode—it is inconceivable that our state leaders would choose to portray a reality that starkly contrasts with the lived experiences of our citizens.

According to the PDP,the denial of this escalating crisis undermines the severity of the situation and exacerbates the suffering of Benue people, who live in constant fear for their safety and property.

“It is disheartening that the Governor and his aides would attempt to present a narrative that is so detached from reality. Such statements raise serious concerns about the motivations behind them. Are they an attempt to obscure the government’s failure to protect its citizens, or are they a diversion from the urgent need for effective measures to ensure the safety of our communities”?

“We urge the Governor to confront the reality of the security crisis rather than downplay it for political gain. Denial is not a strategy; it is a disservice to the people of Benue, who deserve protection, support, and transparency from their government”.

“We stand in solidarity with the people of Benue State in demanding effective security measures that genuinely protect the lives and properties of our citizens. We call for an honest dialogue on security that prioritizes the safety and well-being of the people above”.
