The Fulbe Global Development and Rights Initiative (FGDRI) has expressed deep sympathy and solidarity with the people of Borno State following the severe flooding that has struck the capital, Maiduguri.

The organization condemned the disaster’s extensive damage, which has led to significant loss of life, property, and has displaced hundreds of thousands of residents.

This was contained in a statement signed by President General of the Organization, Salim Musa Umar, PhD on Wednesday.

FGDRI is a nongovernmental organization that connect nonprofits, donors, and companies to work together in achieving their objectives.

With networks in several countries, they aimed to help fellow nonprofits access the funding, tools, training, and other needed supports.

The flood’s impact in Maiduguri has disrupted daily life in Maiduguri, affecting businesses, schools, and community services.

FGDRI’s leadership also conveyed heartfelt condolences to the state governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum and the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Umar Garbai, acknowledging the enormity of the crisis faced by the city’s residents.

In response to the disaster, FGDRI has called on Nigerians to demonstrate solidarity with the victims by providing support to help restore normalcy.

The organization welcomed the Federal Government’s immediate intervention under President Tinubu, viewing it as a crucial step in alleviating the victims’ suffering.

FGDRI also urged the federal government to collaborate with Borno State authorities to develop strategies to prevent future emergencies and minimize their impact.

Now in its fourth day, the flood crisis in Maiduguri is still devastating some parts of the city.

While there are reports of Hope in some communities, many are still struggling to evacuate their environment to seek for shelter elsewhere.

Businesses and other essential services are also disrupted living the residents at the mercy of scarse resources.
