Resident of Bama, Borno State, were thrown into shock on Saturday after a 50-year-old man identified as Modu Isa of Hausari Ward, attempted to take his life in most unusual way.
According to eye witness, Isa stabbed himself thrice in the stomach before cutting of his genitals following his estranged wife’s refusal to return home.
The victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital in Bama. Medical personal reportedly carried out an emergency procedure to reattach his organ.
The incident has since generated mixed reactions within the community.
While some residents sympathized with Isa’s emotional distress, others expressed disbelief over what they described as an act of desperation, and tragicomedy.
A resident, who spoke on anonymously, said, “He said If his wife cannot have him, then his thing too must go”.
Meanwhile security sources confirmed that the case has been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Maiduguri for further investigation.
