The race to succeed Governor Babagana Zulum intensified on Wednesday as Senator Kaka Shehu Lawan picked his nomination form to contest the Borno State governorship.
Lawan represents Borno Central Senatorial District.
He is serving his second term in the National Assembly.
His move positions him as the second aspirant to join the contest.
This follows Engr. Mustapha Gubio’s declaration days earlier.
With Lawan’s entry, the All Progressives Congress (APC) now has two contenders from the Senate and the state executive council.
This signals an early primary.
Party officials say picking the nomination form marks the phase of the process.
That will be followed by screenings, primaries, and consultations with stakeholders across Borno’s 27 local government areas.
Lawan has not yet released a policy blueprint or campaign agenda.
Declarations are expected as alignments take shape in the months.
The development sets the stage for a battle within the APC.
The party is preparing to pick a flagbearer for the 2027 governorship election.
