Borno State governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has urged the Nigerian military to maintain their current momentum in the fight against insurgency in the northeast region.

He said this on Saturday at a dinner night organised by the Joint Task Force, Operation Hadin Kai in Maiduguri, where he commended the efforts of the armed forces.

This is also following the military’s recent victory against the terrorists group in Kukawa Local Government Area of the state.

The dinner was held at Maimalari Cantonment Officers Mess in honour of Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), who visited the state for the first time in his capacity as COAS.

Represented by the Commissioner of Information and Internal Security, Prof. Usman Tar, Governor Zulum said that the military has done well in defending the region from advisories.

”Recently, the theatre command has experienced a resounding success in confronting advisories in Kukawa, and we are very happy that the armed forces have shown the terrorists that they cannot bring challenge and get away with it,” he said.

He equally outlined some projections of the government that needs collaboration with the armed forces to contain security challenges in the state.

The projections include mass resettlement of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to their communities.

He recalled that the government has in ten months resettled over 40 towns and villages as a result of the support of the armed forces.

Tar also disclosed their plan to resettle more IDPs back to their ancestral homes, calling for the support of the armed forces in achieving that.

Similarly, the governor thanked the sector commanders, officers and men of the armed forces for their tremendous support in the resettlement campaign so far.
