The 64th Grammy awards took place today, April 3rd, 2022 and Angelique Kpasseloko Hinto Hounsinou Kandjo Manta Zogbin Kidjo shortly called Angelique Kidjo emerged as the winner against other nominees such as WizKid, Burma Boy, Tems, Femi Kuti, and Made Kuti.
The 61 year old singer-songwriter, actress and activist who is noted for her diverse musical influences and creative music videos hails from Beninese.
Kidjo is fluent in five languages: Fon, french, Yoruba, Gen and English and she sings in all of them.
As a performer, her striking voice, stage presence and fluency in multiple cultures and languages have won respect from her peers and expanded her following across national borders. Kidjo has cross-pollinated the West African traditions of her childhood in Benin with elements of American R&B, funk and jazz, as well as influences from Europe and Latin America.
During her speech in 2022 Grammy’s award, Angelique said it is a big win for Africa. It should be noted that the mother nature crooner had won the Grammy many times in the past.
These had made most Nigerians especially WizKid fans to feel disappointed as they had already gone to their pages to express awe of WizKid bringing home the Grammy.
