The crisis rocking the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti State worsened on Friday, September 25, as a faction of the party led by Senator Tony Adeniyi, suspended Governor Kayode Fayemi over alleged anti-party activities.
This is coming barely 24 hours after another faction loyal to the governor suspended Senator Babafemi Ojudu, special adviser on political matters to the president; Oyetunde Ojo, son-in-law to APC national leader Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu and nine others from the party.
According to report, the APC hinged their suspension on “the recommendation” of the investigative/disciplinary committee inaugurated to investigate their alleged disobedience of the directive that party members should not institute any court action, and to withdraw existing cases in court.
On Friday, however, the Senator Adeniyi-led faction suspended Governor Fayemi from the APC, alleging that no Ward Congress has taken place in the state since inception of the party, insisting that the governor’s faction was illegal.
Adeniyi, who represented Ekiti South senatorial district between 2011 and 2015, said he was made Acting Chairman of the Ekiti APC owing to the “absence of direction or directive from the National Body” and was adjudged as “the only one thus capable to call the SEC(State Executive Council) meeting as duly required by the constitution from henceforth.”
According to the suspension notice made available to our correspondent , in Ado-Ekiti, on Friday, the SEC meeting which suspended Fayemi, was held on Tuesday, September 23, 2020, in accordance with Section 12.8 of APC Constitution.
The APC accuse Faayemi of anti-party roles in the Sept. 19 Edo governorship election, which saw the party losing out in the contest. The party also said Fayemi has colluded with Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State in his bid for 2023 vice presidential candidate under the PDP, if his bid for presidential candidate in APC fails.
